Priya advises smaller businesses on intellectual property: what they own, whether they can prove it, and what to do when somebody else is using it. In practice that covers trade mark clearance and applications, brand and product name disputes, copyright and design questions, confidentiality and trade secrets, and the assignations and licences that move rights between businesses.

A recurring theme is ownership that was never properly transferred. Work commissioned from a freelance designer, developer or agency does not automatically belong to the business that paid for it, and the point tends to surface during due diligence on a sale, or when a funder asks the question directly. Correcting it years later is possible and expensive, whereas doing it correctly at the outset costs very little.

Priya also handles the firm's technology and licensing work, including software and software-as-a-service terms, development and reseller agreements, and the intellectual property provisions in commercial contracts more generally.

Enforcement is approached on commercial grounds. Litigation over intellectual property in Scotland is expensive enough that it should follow a decision taken about what the business wants to achieve.
